Phillipe Chows was my first fine-Chinese-dining experience in NYC a couple of years ago. A great place to bring a group of people that what to dress well and enjoy the dining experience in a trendy yet sophisticated endeavor. Particularly if you have a mixed sort of crowd, both food wise and preference of dining, than Phillipe Chows your dining guru for the night.
As for what to order, I prefer the crispy skin duck for two rather than the Peking duck (see picture with me and sister devouring said duck). The Crispy Seaweed is a winner of an appetizer (quite strange that I can only find it here and Chinese restaurants in London). Calamari is tasty, but nothing special, calamari is actually done quite well in NYC and an appetizer in almost all Bar/Restaurants. Chicken Satay skewers are as good as Zagat rating assumes and just a great little appetizer to go along with that Lychee Martini.
